We are continuing to closely monitor developments around Europe and locally related to Coronavirus (COVID-19). While the situation remains fluid, in Norway, we are guided by the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health where travel bans are concerned. AIG covers the cancellation of trips to countries where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health have advised against traveling.
As of March 14th, 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised that all non-essential travel outside Norway is prohibited. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will re-evaluate the advice by June 15th. for travel to other Nordic countries and by July the 20th. for travel to nearby European countries. Accordingly, AIG Norge (AIG Europe S.A. Norway Branch) will cover cancellations under its Group+ travel insurance policy* for so long as the travel restriction applies and for departures scheduled within 7 days of the date the travel restriction is still in place. Please note that this only applies where the travel was booked and the policy was purchased, before the travel restrictions were introduced on March 14th, 2020. Please further note that cover is always subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.
If your travel plans have been disrupted, please contact the airline or your travel agent, as your travel insurance only covers any costs which are not refunded or reimbursed by your tour operator. Please note that several airlines have already begun re-booking and reimbursement.
If you are unsure about traveling to a destination which is not mentioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, we recommend contacting your tour operator.
As the government continues to update its restrictions around travel, please stay informed by visiting the following websites: Norwegian Institute of Public Health & Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel information / Government.
